Geotools LLC needed a reel built for a highly specialized marine survey cable, and Schill North America delivered. The cable ran 460 meters long and roughly 10.5 mm thick, reinforced by a 470-meter external stress member made of 1/4″ Dyneema cord tied along its length. It also featured 64 stainless steel 5/8″ molded takeouts, spaced every 5 meters, adding significant rigidity and bulk.
The cable was built for the use of running a boat-towed resistivity system for sea-bottom exploration, a demanding application where reliable handling is critical.
The Solution
Schill recommended the SK580.320.450.RM-US, its highest-capacity, stocked reel in the USA, sized to hold the main cable, the full Dyneema stress member, and all 64 molded takeouts.
The fit was precise. Every component of the assembly wound onto the reel exactly as planned.
The Result
The completed system has been delivered and is now supporting the customer’s sea-bottom exploration work in the field.
